On October 25th, 2018, a 22 year-old black man was shot in the leg in Albany Houses near 1191 Park Place. Three days later on October 28th, a 21 year-old black man was shot in the chest in Albany Houses at 1414 Bergen Street. S.O.S. Crown Heights organized two shooting responses on Tuesday the 30th to take a stand against the violence. The first response was between Troy Ave and Park Place, and the second was immediately after at 1414 Bergen Street.
It was a striking experience to have two shooting responses one after the other, but also for both of the shootings to have happened at Albany Houses. Albany Houses recently went two years without any shootings. Following these two incidents, there have now been four shootings at Albany Houses in 2018.
The community came together to denounce the shootings and to express hope for another period of non-violence for Albany Houses. There were 50 people at the first response and 40 at the second. S.O.S. is grateful to everyone who came to show their support and who took a stand against gun violence in our community. #stopshootingstartliving
