On the evening of Thursday, December 19th, over 75 neighborhood residents from the Crown Heights and Bed-Stuy communities joined in merriment for the 2019 Neighbors in Action Holiday Party. Families that attended ranged in size, stated faith, and nation of origin – but they all connected over good food, table games, and Motown holiday tunes. Attendees grabbed props as they posed for pictures in front of a winter-wonderland backdrop as warmth and joviality were felt all throughout the second floor of BKLYN Commons’ Bed-Stuy/Bushwick location.
The high-point of the event came during the toy distribution for kids and teenagers 17 and under. Parents accompanied their children when selecting their favorite toy truck, doll, or science set. Teens chose from a wide variety of electronics, including headphones and portable chargers. All gifts were graciously donated by NIA partners and community members.
NIA is grateful for the support of partner organizations that were key to the success of this event including Modern MD, Order of the Eastern Star Phoenix Chapter 33, and TD Bank – all of whom provided toys for our youth to enjoy over the holidays. A special thanks goes to BKLYN Commons who graciously hosted the event.
