Arts to End Violence 2019:
Each Spring, Neighbors in Action (NIA) invites you to join us in our efforts to stop shootings and killings in Brooklyn and beyond. We seek the help of local artists, schools, and arts-related organizations to maximize our impact on the community. We encourage our community to dedicate some time towards discussion of gun violence and the creation of art that explores topics of violence, community, and healing.
NIA is currently preparing to celebrate our ninth annual Arts to End Violence contest and group gallery show. We will hold a gallery opening reception in the spring of 2019. At this event, artists, merchants, schools, clergy, youth, and neighbors are invited to collaborate and organize to make gun violence unacceptable in our city, instead of a regular and “normal” event. Read all about it and see photos on our blog!
For more information, email Edward at firstname.lastname@example.org or call (646) 975 – 1440
For the ninth annual gallery show, you can get involved in the following ways:
- Submit your art or your students’ art into our contest (submissions of all ages are welcome)
- Invite our staff to facilitate a workshop/presentation at your school or community site focusing on anti-gun violence and art as a tool for social change
- We are always looking for ways to collaborate with individuals and organizations concerned about gun violence. As the time nears, please share this information with others you think would like to be involved as well
Submissions of 2-D artwork including prints, photography, paintings, drawing and collages will be considered. Submissions can include art made specifically for this contest or previous works that connect to the theme. An open call for submissions will be made in the winter of 2019. If you would like to be contacted when submission are being accepted please contact Edward McWilliams by e-mailing email@example.com.
