On March 4, 2016 more than 60 people gathered at the corner of Dean Street and Troy Avenue where a shooting occurred earlier in the week. Those in attendance included community members, S.O.S. team members, Mediation Center staff, S.O.S. Clergy Action Network members, youth interns from S.O.S. and YO S.O.S., P.S. 243 and Launch staff, Center for Nu Leadership, and members of GMAAC, Man Up, and Brownsville In Violence Out.
S.O.S. works to reduce shootings and killings and to build safer neighborhoods. Whenever there is a shooting in the S.O.S. target area, the team responds by organizing a Shooting Response to send the message that gun violence is not acceptable or normal in our communities.
