Prayer Walk for Peace August 24, 2017
The S.O.S. Bed-Stuy Street team along with Rev. Kevin Jones gathered with clergy and ministers representing four different faith communities. We gathered at Raymond Bush Park behind PS.44 and began a walk of faith, a passion for change, and a message of transformation for Bed-Stuy. Various ministers prayed for peace, calm, changed hearts and minds, and active community that spreads love and compassion without violence. They were joined by youth on bikes who chanted “Stop Shooting, Start Living” and got on the bullhorn doing the same. Community members and participants from school aged to older residents stopped to listen, join in prayer, walk with the team, or cheer the team on along the prayer route. The group varied from 13 to over 20 people depending on the location. It was a powerful moment of faith and direct action coming together in community where multiple generations of community members voiced their support to stop shootings and killings in Bed-Stuy.
