On the evening of February 5th, Mediation Center staff member Jazzi Zzaman and S.O.S. Crown Heights Violence Interrupter Dequann Stanley took part in an event at Brooklyn East Collegiate Charter School. The event, called “Amplify”, was designed to give youth a louder voice and allow them to speak about current events in New York City. S.O.S. Staff lead a small group of eigth grade boys in a discussion around police and community relations in their neighborhoods. Students had the chance to express themselves about their feelings of safety in their communities as well as the recent Eric Garner and Michael Brown cases. The Mediation Center and S.O.S. Crown Heights appreciated the students’ stories and were glad to connect with Brooklyn youth.
