On Saturday, August 29th, Kingston Avenue brought out over 500 neighbors and supporters for the first ever Back to School Play Street event.  In partnership with the Senator Hamilton’s office, Uncommon Schools, and Redemption Inc, the Play Street featured more than 30 organizations leading tabling activities as well as a full size basketball hoop, a huge bouncy house, and a digital games van. Staff and volunteers served more than 400 meals , distributed nearly 600 backpacks full of school supplies, and gave out over 200 children’s books. The event was led by staff as well as more than 25 volunteers including youth from S.O.S., YO S.O.S., and Justice Community Plus.

DJ Todd Taylor kept the crowd entertained, and community members of all ages were able to enjoy a day of fun while learning more about S.O.S. and other local resources. For more photos, visit our Facebook album here. We hope everyone has a great start to the school year!play st collage
