cardOn Friday, January 23rd, 10 young men gathered in the Crown Heights office to learn about a new opportunity to build job readiness skills and prepare for successful careers. The S.O.S. staff were joined by Kayin Latson, Program Coordinator at the Brownsville Community Justice Center, as well as a young alum of the “Justice Community PLUS Program” from Brownsville.

While some of the Crown Heights participants were skeptical at first, hearing directly from a young person similar to themselves quickly changed their perspective. By the end of the session, 9 of the young men had enrolled in the 6 month program which begins in February, 2015. Through this initiative, they will have the opportunity to get connected to college and GED programs, develop resumes and cover letters, build leadership skills, and find paid internship placements.
