S.O.S. works to reduce shootings and killings and to build safer neighborhoods. Whenever there is a shooting in the S.O.S. target area, the team responds by organizing a Shooting Response. On Thursday December 10th, roughly 30 people gathered at the corner of Gates Avenue and Marcus Garvey Boulevard to rally in response to a shooting that happened in the area on Monday December 7th.
S.O.S. staff members, volunteers, and community residents stood at the corner to inform passersby that there had been a shooting on the block. Staff took the megaphone to speak out and communicate to community members that gun violence is unacceptable and will not be tolerated or normalized in our neighborhoods.
