On November 10th, Crime Commission led a workshop for ten S.O.S. participants about online violence. Participants learned about the risks and consequences associated with posting on social media platforms and how posts could lead to violence. Participants were trained on identifying levels of risk associated with certain posts as well as concrete actions to take to intervene with online violence.

Participant Fawwaz found the workshop particularly interesting.

“Without even know it, I’ve used some of the tactics we learned about to promote safety for people I care about in areas of danger. This workshop made me think about what I post and things I’ve posted in the past that might have been associated with violence. This made me appreciate how much I’ve changed, especially in regards to what I post on social media.”

Overall, participants found the event to be highly educational and applicable in an increasingly media- focused world.
