Youth Organizing to Save Our Streets (YO S.O.S.) is the youth branch of S.O.S. The program gathers high school age students to explore the topics of violence, inequality, conflict de-escalation, trauma and self-care, activism, and the arts as a tool for social change. They are trained in leadership, public speaking, peer education, and facilitation, and have opportunities to lead their own anti-violence campaigns in the community and in their schools. Participants who complete the program are eligible to receive a diploma, community service credit, and a small stipend. They also receive assistance with college and career readiness including summer job and internship opportunities.
The newest cohort of YO S.O.S. will meet from October through early June in Crown Heights. Workshops take place on Mondays and Wednesdays from 4pm-6pm.
